INTRODUCTION TO ANIMATION (DANM 131)

Here is a collection of lip-synching guides to help you through the illustration of each sound in your dialogue.  Looking in the mirror while sounding out words can also be useful. Click on the source links for a larger view of each file.

Helpful hints:
• English is not a phonetic language. Focus on the sounds in a word rather than the actual letters. A good example of this is the word “I”. If you carefully listen to the sounds (and watch yourself in the mirror while saying the word) you will realize it requires two mouth positions, “Ah” and “ee”.
• Words commonly flow into one another, and a “resting position” between words is not always necessary.
• If  the position of your character remains the same throughout your dialogue, mouth positions can be “recycled”, or reused in the context of a new word.
